SUMMARY OF JOB
The Junior Buyer position will support the Cedar Rapids Power Buyer in creating, tracking, and managing purchase requests from multiple site locations in North America. This includes, but is not limited to, helping to resolve goods receipts issues, seeking approvals for orders, adding of new suppliers into SAP, and supporting Project Purchasing Leads with critical and time sensitive orders for projects and plant support.
In addition, this position will be developed over time to learn the responsibilities of a Senior Buyer to support selected Product Development projects within the Offer Creation Process (OCP) securing an efficient supplier selection and supplier management process, reaching & beating end-to-end cost targets & Time-to-market objectives. He/she is a key contact for coordination of purchasing activities between Global Supply Chain (GSC) organization and Partner Business Unit (BU). Supports the development of a panel of Best in Class suppliers in N. America which matches the Partner BU needs in terms of growth, technical challenges. He/she is a strong team player in N. America Offer Creation Process, GSC, and the Schneider Electric Purchasing community where he/she is recognized for his/her supplier market expertise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Support of project buyers with Purchasing activities within new product projects
Creation of new vendors in SAP, and communication to vendors for new orders
Assist Finance and Project Management with reconciliation of open orders after project closure.
Assist Purchasing Buyer with tactical work, which may include typing of orders, tracking of orders, delivery of incoming packages, quoting parts from Distributors or internal manufacturing sites, etc.
Support other project functions, such as Engineering, Industrialization, Project Management, and Quality in purchase order management for projects as requested.
Train with Senior Buyers and Purchasing Manager to develop skills for future support of the following skills:
Choose the components & sub assembly/suppliers in consistency with global/regional commodity strategy and supplier strategy. Guide components & sub assembly selection with a purchasing approach (Total Cost of Ownership, Innovation, avoid single sourcing, promote standardization, supply chain flexibility, quality). Analyze and challenge the needs.
Contribute to the achievement of OCP project targets (product cost, project cost, quality, and time-to-market) while respecting the purchasing processes and strategy. Responsible on negotiation with suppliers in all Purchasing terms and conditions not already fixed by commodity manager/contract. Set up contract with legal department for strategic parts & components.
Push Co-Development with suppliers and Early Supplier Involvement on OCP projects. Bring supplier market knowledge into projects.
Monitor and ensure competitive material cost to meet product target cost (design/redesign to cost). Participate to product cost estimation.
Lead the selection of purchasing deliverables to apply on every project and ensure are done on time according to OCP guidelines.
Identify new technologies/suppliers; indentify gaps between current/future needs & current supplier panel. Provide local/regional market intelligence and OCP project requirements to build sourcing commodity strategies. Share key choices with commodity managers/cross functional team.
o Act as representative of OCP Purchasing at cross functional Virtual Commodity Teams meeting
o Contribute to define, improve and implement best practices within the Purchasing team
EDUCATION MINIMUM REQUIRED
4 years education in Purchasing, Logistics, Engineering, Supply Chain Management or Business
EXPERIENCE MINIMUM REQUIRED
Minimum 2 years of experience in a Purchasing/Sourcing team
Some experience in Purchasing tools (TCO, Should Cost,) and negotiations desired
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS 1 - REQUIRED
